How to Maintain and Protect Custom RV Decals

RVs are one of the most popular vehicles for travel and adventure, and many people personalize them by adding decals or graphics. While some choose to keep their camper looking simple and streamlined, others are more interested in a unique paint job or hand-drawn design.

What are custom decals?

Custom rv decals can be difficult to maintain and protect, especially since they are exposed to harsh weather elements. Sun exposure can dry out the vinyl and glue, causing them to lose color and crack or fall off. The good news is that there are some easy ways to prevent your RV decals from fading and protect them for the long-term.

The first thing you’ll want to do is remove your old decals and clean the surface. Use a quality buffer and pad (click to view on Amazon) to remove any dirt or debris. Once you have your RV clean, apply Meguiar’s M4916 Marine/RV Oxidation Remover and rub it into the fiberglass gel coat. This will help the gel coat re-hydrate and make it easier to buff away any remaining decal outlines.

After you’ve done that, you’ll want to apply a high quality RV wax. Most traditional car waxes will do the trick, but make sure it’s petroleum distillate free and doesn’t contain any ingredients that attack the acrylic adhesive or vinyl stickers that hold your RV decals on. This will not only provide a great looking finish, but will also help your RV decals last longer and resist fading.
